The Senate is the other half of Congress and with The House, they contribute to a bicameral legislature. The Senate is seen to be more prestigious than the House because of a longer term and there are fewer Senators.

1. Hold trials for impeachment
2. Pass legislation
3. Approve appointments
The Senate has a unique ability to use a filibuster to halt legislation.
